Line of 4

Line of 4 is a take on the popular game Connect-4.  If you’ve never played, the goal of the game is to get four markers of your color in a row before your opponent does – its essentially a two dimensional version of Tic Tac Toe.  Line of 4 has three difficulty options, with the hardest one presenting a rel challenge.  Additionally, you can play against another person locally, or over the internet.  For online play, you must create a free account or you can link it with your Facebook account.  A nice bonus feature is the ability to choose the color of your pieces.  Line of 4 does everything you would want from a Connect-4 app, and should be downloaded by all fans of the game.

Kids Numbers and Math

Want your kid to be the next Einstein?  Too bad, but Kids Numbers and Math will certainly help your child’s progression in mathematics.  This app will take your child through the learning process from the very beginning.  Kids Numbers and Math will teach your child the numbers, as well as how to count.  Your child can then play a game where you have to press either the higher or lower number.  The app will then give you basic addition and subtraction problems, and finally, advanced problems which include both addition and subtraction.  This app also includes a match the numbers memory game.  Kids Numbers and Math is a great way for your child to practise math on all levels.

Kids Song Machine

Kids Song Machine will drive your kids crazy…in a good way.  This app includes six popular songs that will bring you waaaaay back to your own childhood.  The list is made up of the following timeless classics: Hickory Dickory Dock, Old MacDonald, Wheels on the Bus, If Your Happy and You Know It, Row Row Row Your Boat, and I’m a Little Tea Pot.  The User Interface is very kid-friendly, and they can interact with the screen during the songs.  Not only will Kids Song Machine keep your kids entertained, but it will also help develop their musical rhythm at a young age.  Download this app if you want your kids to sing-a-long.

SpongeBob Puzzle: Jigsaw

If your kid likes SpongeBob, this is the app for you.  SpongBob Puzzle: Jigsaw will keep your child occupied for hours while attempting to construct scenes from the Nick show.  The concept of the game is to slide puzzle pieces around to for the correct picture.  This is not one of those impossibly frustrating slider games where you can only move into the empty space; all you have to do is drag the square to where you think it fits on the grid.  By forming one picture, you unlock the next one.  The puzzles get progressively more complex and the grid eventually evolves from 3×3 to 6×6.  A nice bonus feature included is that you can look through all the completed puzzles and make any one your wallpaper.  SpongeBob Puzzle: Jigsaw is a great app, as it will keep your child’s attention while developing spacial reasoning.  Download if your kid likes SpongeBob.

Preschool Learning

Preschool Learning is an engaging app that will both entertain and teach toddlers.  There are four modes to choose from.  Alphabet Blocks presents a complete set of alphabet blocks for your child to play with.  By selecting a letter, you can view all sides of the cube using flick motions.  This is great to teach letters.  The next mode is Colors and Textures, which is a coloring book for kids.  By touching a sector, it will automatically be filled by the selected color.  There are a bunch of different options to mess around with for this one, so it will definitely keep your children occupied.  Letter Tracing is the next mode, which will teach your child how to draw numbers and letters using the touchscreen, which is a great tool.  The final mode is Match Party, which as you probably guessed is a basic matching game on a 5×5 grid.  It includes entertaining music, and the cards change from round to round.  Between the four modes, your young children will stay occupied while learning though this fantastic educational tool.

Kids Connect the Dots

Kids Connect the Dots is an app that will essentially put a connect-the-dots book in the palm of your child’s hand.  It is very simple, and very easy to use.  All you have to do is connect the dots with your finger over the touchscreen.  The full image will pop up once you have connected all the dots.  The app will keep kids engages through enticing visuals and rewarding sounds.  Kids Connect the Dots is the perfect on-the-go substitute for a coloring book, and will keep your young children occupied for extended periods of time while developing hand-eye coordination.

Classic Simon

Classic Simon is exactly what the title indicates.  For those of you who forgot, Simon is the game where you have to enter the correct sequence of colors.  Doing so will add one more color to the chain.  In Classic Simon, you can tailor the game to the specific skill level of your children.  The options are slow, medium, fast, accelerator, and magic memory (only shows the new color).  All of these options can be played on the classic 4 color grid, or on an intense 9 color grid.  This wide array of options will keep your kids engaged.  For the competitive spirit, you can see your high score for each specific setting, as well as the all-time leaderboard from Classic Simon players around the globe.  This is a great game to both keep kids occupied and boost memory function.

Trap!

Trap! is a classic arcade game we’ve all played before.  Your goal is to isolate flying orbs by drawing a line across the screen, eventually capturing the required percentage of the screen.  However, if an orb hits your line before it is complete, you lose a life.  This game is simple, addicting, and at times frustrating (when you lose).  A couple of unique features to Trap! are in game boosts, such as turbo, extra lives, and extra time.  Additionally, there are three different game modes, so purists can breathe a sigh of relief.  Download Trap! if you like this type of game…you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

Flood-It!

Flood-It! is a highly addictive puzzler that provides a simplistic challenge.  The game is a set of colored tiles that cover the playing area.  You start as the tile in the upper corner, and by changing your color to the color of an adjecent tile, you will caputre it.  The goal is to get the entire board to one color within a set number of moves.  The developers clearly tested this extensively, and have set the number of moves so that it is challenging, but possible.  There are three different level sizes, as well as 10 or so color scheme options.  This game is easy to learn, but hard to master, as each level presents a unique challenge.  Download Flood-It! if you want a Rubik’s Cube-like challenge on your phone.

Slimeball Speedway

Slimeball Speedway is yet another fun, simple, and addictive game.  You control a ball of slime using your accelerometor as it rolls through a city.  By rolling over smaller items, your ball of slime will absorb them causing it to grow and pick up speed.  However, if you collide with a bigger item, your ball of slime will either shrink or die.  Your goal is to reach the end of the level with as much size and speed as possible to unlock the next level.  Slimeball Speedway is very easy to hop into, and is great to kill a few minutes.
