Trap! is a classic arcade game we’ve all played before.  Your goal is to isolate flying orbs by drawing a line across the screen, eventually capturing the required percentage of the screen.  However, if an orb hits your line before it is complete, you lose a life.  This game is simple, addicting, and at times frustrating (when you lose).  A couple of unique features to Trap! are in game boosts, such as turbo, extra lives, and extra time.  Additionally, there are three different game modes, so purists can breathe a sigh of relief.  Download Trap! if you like this type of game…you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

Flood-It! is a highly addictive puzzler that provides a simplistic challenge.  The game is a set of colored tiles that cover the playing area.  You start as the tile in the upper corner, and by changing your color to the color of an adjecent tile, you will caputre it.  The goal is to get the entire board to one color within a set number of moves.  The developers clearly tested this extensively, and have set the number of moves so that it is challenging, but possible.  There are three different level sizes, as well as 10 or so color scheme options.  This game is easy to learn, but hard to master, as each level presents a unique challenge.  Download Flood-It! if you want a Rubik’s Cube-like challenge on your phone.

Slimeball Speedway

Slimeball Speedway is yet another fun, simple, and addictive game.  You control a ball of slime using your accelerometor as it rolls through a city.  By rolling over smaller items, your ball of slime will absorb them causing it to grow and pick up speed.  However, if you collide with a bigger item, your ball of slime will either shrink or die.  Your goal is to reach the end of the level with as much size and speed as possible to unlock the next level.  Slimeball Speedway is very easy to hop into, and is great to kill a few minutes.

Homerun Battle 3D

Homerun Battle 3D is one of the most instantly satisfying games for Android phones.  As the title indicates, this game is a home run derby.  Use your phone’s accelerometor to aim the bat, and tap the screen to crank one out of the park, all in impressive 3D graphics.  You can play locally against your own record, or you can battle a fellow slugger online.  The online play has two impressive features.  One is the picture-in-picture, which shows your opponent in the upper corner of the screen.  The second is the game’s cross-platform functionality – meaning you can challenge your iPhone toting friend to battle.

By going yard, you can earn new equipment that will improve your stats.  Additionally, after leveling up, you face increasingly more difficult pitchers that have better control, faster speeds, and more pitches (good luck hitting a knuckle-ball).  This game is a lot of fun, and it feels great when you send one over the wall.  If you want to know what its like to crank bombs without taking a needle to the ass, Homerun Battle 3D is the app to you.

Falling Ball

Falling Ball might be the simplest app on the Google market, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most addictive.  Your goal is to avoid bouncing balls by using your accelerometer.  This is really easy at the beginning with only one ball on the screen, but every 10 seconds or so, another ball appears.  The game gets intense really quickly, making it great to pick up for a minute or two.  Plus, you’ll want to beat the high score of all your friends.  Download Falling Ball for a quick thrill.

Air Control

Air Control puts you on the flight deck, guiding an endless stream of planes and helicopters to a safe landing.   There are different types of planes, each a different size and speed, that you need to land on the corresponding runways.  Also, there are choppers that need to land on the helipad.  The game will warn you when a new plan is about to enter the screen, or when a collision is immanent.  To land a plane, all you have to do is touch it then draw a line to the runway with your finger.  Simple enough.

After a few flybys, multiple plans appear on the screen at the same time, requiring quick thinking, agility, and even some strategy, as its game over with a collision.  If you have problems multitasking, this is not the game for you.  Once you crash, the game gives you an aviation style ranking (co-pilot, ace pilot….) based on your percentile score.  Air Control has a few different maps to choose from, with each being a unique challenge.  This is the most addictive game I’ve found on the Android market, and is great to kill a few minutes.  Air Control will make you feel like your running Top Gun (minus the famously homoerotic volleyball scene), and you’ll feel Maverick’s pain when one of your planes goes down in flames.  I highly suggest this game for everybody, and is a must download for people who enjoy spacial puzzles.
